History of Settlement

This chapter deals with the regional  landscape of the areas that are significant for this chronicle. The history of a family is also always shaped by its spatial environment and influenced its actions. Especially, because the Nannemann family and the related families were farmers for centuries and therefore directly influenced by the spatial conditions but also by the form of government. This has, among other things, also to do with the special spatial situation of Bieste.

The settlement history also includes the emigration movement of the 18th and 19th century, which also had a strong influence on the Nanneman(n) family. 

It is also interesting to mention that independently of the origin of the name Nannemann in Northern Germany (Dithmarschen) an old family tribe lived which is called Nannemannen and, as far as is known, has nothing to do with the Nannemann family from Bieste. However, the name has been preserved in the village Nannemannshusen until today.
