Family

Family is a group of people who somehow belong together. Be it through biological kinship, marriage, adoption or even freely chosen. Together under one roof, or scattered all over the world. With two people, or hundreds. For a short period of time or over generations. Family is independent of countries, religion, race and political conviction.

Nannemann

The following is about the Nannemann family which originated on a farm in the district of Bieste, municipality of Rieste, joint municipality of Bersenbrück, Lower Saxony, Germany.

Currently a distinction is made between the period before and after 1782.

  • Before 1782: There were several families on the farm which belonged to the property of the von Quernheim-Horneburg family and was thus leased by the respective family. These families called themselves Westendorf and later Nannemann, but were not necessarily related to each other. At that time it was common that a family took over the name of the farm.
  • After 1782: After the bankruptcy of the last tenant in 1782, the widow Thamann leased the farm and took the name Nannemann for herself and her children. In 1823, her son Bernard bought the farm from Baron Quernheim zu Harenburg.
This line of the Nannemann family exists without interruption until today and has descendants distributed in Germany and America.  They are the origin of all present "Nannemann" and "Nanneman".
